Using Apple Mac OS voices with Prophecy

Apple Mac OS voices

Prophecy works with the built-in Cepstral TTS voices that come with the Mac OS Apple Speech Manager Interface.

Voice Configuration

Prophecy can access any voice listed in the Speech drop-down of the VoiceOver Utility under Universal Access in System Preferences. Take note of the exact voice name. This is the name you will use in your scripts. No configuration is necessary to access any voice listed in this section. Simply reference the proper name in your script.

For example, in CallXML, if you would like to use the Microsoft Mary voice, you would use the following <say> tag:
<say voice="Alex">

For VoiceXML, you can use:
<property name="voicename" value="Alex"/>

For CCXML:
<dialogstart src="'null://?text=This is a test of the Text to Speech dialog extension&voice=Alex&termdigits=*'" type="'application/x-texttospeech'"/>
