Prophecy Overview

The Voxeo Prophecy Platform offers many valuable features other platforms lack, such as full W3C standards support, comprehensive CCXML call control, call conferencing , and two-way call recording. Prophecy seamlessly integrates with existing telephony and web-based infrastructures to enable traditional touch-tone and speech-enabled applications, CTI, SIP VoIP, and more.

Prophecy scales extremely well in both directions.  Developers can run Prophecy on a basic Windows, Mac, or Linux notebook with the free two-port version of Prophecy.  Small businesses can run a 4 or 8 port version of Prophecy on any low-end server.  And larger customers can scale with Prophecy to thousands of ports that seamlessly work together. The platform is the foundation of Voxeo's globally-distributed hosting infrastructure – a 72,000 port example of Prophecy’s scale and power.

The core Prophecy Platform is a suite of software components that work together to integrate and manage the telephony, automatic speech recognition (ASR), speech synthesis (TTS), DTMF (touch-tone), media, and other resources required to run your IVR or VoIP applications. It brings together VoiceXML and CCXML browsers, a CCXML- or CallXML-based softswitch, and a host-based Media Server. The Media Server includes Voxeo's own ASR and TTS components, and also works with any MRCPv1 compliant ASR or TTS engine.

<Mention SIPMethod: full application server including support for SIP servlets.>

This section describes the different components of Prophecy and outlines your integration options for each. Specific instructions for installing and configuring Prophecy and integrating with third-party components are included later in this guide.

Standards Mean Flexibility and Speed

Our standards-based approach provides the flexibility needed to meet your needs. No custom development is required to integrate with key components. Instead, you select:

A 100% Compliant VoiceXML Browser

Voxeo's industry-leading VoiceXML browser is the only VoiceXML browser in the world to pass 100% of  the required and optional compliance tests for certification. Voxeo's VoiceXML browser includes comprehensive call processing, audio prompting, voice recognition, speech synthesis, and Web application server integration features. Combined with our advanced CCXML call control capabilities, Prophecy delivers a completely XML-based platform that matches and beats features found in traditional IVR platforms.

Voxeo is one of the W3C Editors of the VoiceXML 2.0 and VoiceXML 2.1 standards.

The Industry's Leading CCXML Browser

Prophecy is 100% compliant with CCXML and offers the world's most proven CCXML implementation. Voxeo's CCXML browser supports fine-grained call control including the ability to accept or reject calls based on caller ID or any other SIP header, comprehensive call redirection and transfers, full call conferencing for 2 to 200 participants, the ability to initiate VoiceXML dialogs on demand, as well as advanced Call Progress Analysis (CPA) capabilities to detect answering machines, fax machines, and human beings when the call is answered.

Voxeo's CTO, RJ Auburn, is Editor and Chair of the W3C Call Control XML (CCXML) standard and working group.

Prophecy Designer for Fast Custom Application Creation

Voxeo simplifies voice application development with Prophecy Designer, a tool for creating voice applications without coding VoiceXML.  Easy to use and completely web-based, Designer works like an interactive tutorial that walks users through simple steps to create any IVR or VoIP application. Designer features steps to prompt users, gather choices, input information, integrate with web services, route calls based on date or time, and record or transfer calls.

Application designers manage their applications with built-in reporting, transcription and media management modules.

Telephony - Prophecy's Pure SIP Architecture

Prophecy is a pure SIP platform. All components communicate via the SIP and MRCP protocols, making it easy to distribute any of Prophecy's functions to additional servers.  Prophecy has proven scalability going from 2-8 ports on a low-end notebook, to more than 500 ports on a single server, to tens of thousands of ports in a server cluster.

To connect to TDM networks, Voxeo customers typically utilize standards-based SIP gateways from vendors such as Cisco and Sonus. These gateways convert traditional TDM circuits to VoIP when direct SIP trunking is not available from the carrier or switch.

Voxeo has performed extensive interoperability testing with SIP gateways from Cisco and uses these devices in its distributed hosted environment. Voxeo also offers a turnkey Prophecy IVR Server and Prophecy SIP Appliance, which include a built-in POTS or TDM to SIP gateway from Paraxip Technologies.

Built-in ASR and TTS Engines

Prophecy is itself a powerful MRCP media server and media proxy server, which ships bundled with Voxeo's own ASR and TTS engines.

The Prophecy Platform is designed to be compatible with any speech synthesis or recognition engine that supports the IETF Media Resource Control Protocol (MRCP) standard, e.g. the Nuance ASR and TTS engines.

Nuance Voice Recognition Integration

Voxeo fully supports Nuance. Our integration with Nuance's distributed voice recognition engine provides scalable, flexible, and highly accurate voice recognition capabilities. Nuance Listen & Learn™ technology automatically detects and adapts to the unique speech and call characteristics of each individual caller. Nuance AccuBurst™ technology intelligently optimizes CPU utilization, improves performance, and minimizes the hardware costs of the Voxeo  Prophecy IVR Platform.
